Old Town Mill

In the most unsuspecting spot, near the projects in New London and underneath the jam packed interstate 95, lies the historic Old Town Mill. Since 1650 until the sometime in the 20th century, the mill used water power to grind corn, wheat, and rye into flour. Currently, the mill grounds are free to visit from sunrise until sunset. The Old Town Mill was first built by John Winthrop, Jr. ve first settled the area now called New London in 1646 and went on to serve as the governor of Connecticut for nearly 20 years. The first building was later destroyed by Benedict Arnold, but was rebuilt in the exact location as the original mill shortly after.
